Obituary for Lenore Randolph (Tharp)

Mabel Lenore Tharp Randolph, 97, of Lost Creek (Rockford Community), passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, January 2, 2020. She was born in Ritchie County on September 26, 1922, a daughter of the late Forest Schley Tharp and Gurnia Belle (Brake) Tharp.

On July 17, 1946, she married Ernest Grant Randolph, who preceded her in death on January 14, 2005, after 58 years of marriage.

She is survived by three sons, Steven G. Randolph and his wife Julia Wolfe Randolph of Bridgeport, Jeffrey C. Randolph and his wife Brenda DeBrular Randolph of Parkersburg and Robert E. Randolph and his companion Debra Gray of Johnstown; a daughter, Jennifer L. Randolph Shillingburg of Higginsville, MO; six grandchildren, Brian Randolph and his wife Jennifer, Benjamin Randolph and his wife Christa, Cris Randolph and his fiancé Sydney Cox, Sarah Spatafore and her husband Andrew, Amanda Martin and her husband Ernie and Vanessa Cohron and her husband Michael; three step-grandchildren, Tara Gray, Jill Morrison and her husband Mitch and Jason Floyd; and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Tim Shillingburg; and three sisters, Louise Tharp, Lorraine Gain, and Lois Rollins.

Mabel was a graduate of R-W High School, Class of 1940. She was a 50+ year member of the Rockford CEOs and a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church. She had previously worked at C & P Telephone Company.

She was a farmer’s wife and enjoyed gardening, canning, taking care of others, and making sure no one left her home hungry. Most of all, she loved her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Mabel’s memory be made to Amedisys Foundation and sent to Amedisys, Attn: Amedisys Foundation, 2200 Grand Central Avenue, Suite 102, Vienna, WV 26105.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 10 – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, where services will be held at 1 p.m. with Robert Lynn Randolph presiding. Entombment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Quiet Dell.
