Obituary for Richard Edward Shields

Richard Edward Shields, 71, of Clarksburg, passed away Sunday morning, December 22, 2019, in the United Hospital Center. He was born in Chiefton on June 25, 1948, a son of the late Curtis Williams and Mary Rose Williams.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Roxana Simmons Shields.

Also surviving are three children, Lisha Shields and her fiancé Ryan Freeman, Clarksburg; Kaitlyn Shields and her companion Roberto Casablanca, Addison, TX; and Thomas Zachary Shields of Ft. Hood, TX; and a grandson, Levi Casablanca. A brother, Robert Shields and his wife Kimberly, Stonewood; a sister, Stefaney Williams, Fairmont; his brother-in-law Eric Simmons and his wife Pamela; two sisters-in-law, Katie Simmons and Antoinette Dowdell and her husband Gerald; and several nieces and nephews complete his family.

Richard was a graduate of Shinnston High School, Class of 1966. He then enlisted in the US Army, where he served for over 8 years and was stationed in Germany and Thailand. He then worked for the Department of Highways; worked construction; United Hospital Center; and the Harrison County Courthouse until his retirement.

He was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Above all, he was a devoted father and husband, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Thursday from 2 – 4 p.m. & 6 - 8 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2019, with Pastor Rahsaan Armand presiding. Interment will follow in WV National Cemetery, where Military Funeral Honors will be accorded.
