Obituary for Rexall McCloy

Rexall McCloy, 92, of Walnut Hill, Rosemont, passed away Thursday morning, August 9, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Rosemont on December 11, 1925, a son of the late Dennis and Bessie (Wilson) McCloy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ercie Shahan Thompson McCloy on December 23, 2004.
He is survived by three step-sons, James Thompson and his wife Ruth Ellen and John Thompson and his wife Ronda all of Rosemont and Barry Thompson and his companion Connie of Mt. Clare; step-daughters, Saundra Bray and her husband Charles of Flemington, and Martha Thompson of Grafton; step-son-in-law, John Rutherford of Grafton; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a step-son Floyd Thompson; two step-daughters, Linda Rutherford and Carrie Bray, two grandchildren Darrel Bray, Jr. and Timothy Thompson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by 7 brothers, Raymond, Ralph, Charles, Bernard, Hubert, Alfred, and Clarence, and a sister, Mary Jane McCloy.

Rexall served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was formerly employed at C & P Coal and the City of Clarksburg, and was a member of the Victory Valley Church in Rosemont. His hobbies included reading Western books, watching wrestling and Western movies, playing guitar, hunting, feeding birds and playing horse shoes.

He had a very special granddaughter, Katie Thompson, that he enjoyed playing games, drawing and playing fidget spinners with. He called her “his little nurse”. He also had two special grandsons, Chad Thompson and Jeremy Thompson that helped take care of him. They spent many days and hours talking and listening to him tell stories.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Monday, August 13, 2018, from 2 – 4 & 6-8 p.m., where services will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Reverend James Thompson presiding. Interment will follow in Flemington I.O.O.F. Cemetery where Military Funeral Honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and WV Army National Guard Honor Guard.
