Obituary for Karl Porter Sauerwein

Karl Porter Sauerwein, 89, of Clarksburg, passed from this life on Friday, July 27, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Convalescent Care in Buckhannon.
Mr. Sauerwein was born in Mt. Pleasant, PA in 1929 and grew up in Fairmont where he made many fond memories of family and friends. He graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1947 and Fairmont State College in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He also attended Washington and Jefferson College and West Virginia University, and played both college and semi-pro baseball.
Karl was a Korean War era veteran serving in the Army from 1951-1959 on both active duty and reserves. He was a member of the Acacia Lodge #157 of Masons for over 60 years. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg.
Mr. Sauerwein retired as a Reservoir Analyst from Consolidated Natural Gas Corp. (now Dominion Resources) with 36 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed his later years as a resident of Maplewood Retirement Community in Bridgeport.
Mr. Sauerwein was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gertrude Sauerwein, his sister Elaine Mathison, and his daughter Carolyn.
He is survived by three sons: Karl II of Clearwater, FL; William of Clarksburg; and Christopher and his wife Renae, currently of Buckhannon. There are six grandchildren: Mary Ann, Karl, III, Karoline, and George (all of Florida); and April Sue, and Christopher II (both of West Virginia). There are also eight great grandchildren; Kyra, Nathaniel, Kiley, Emma, Porter, Sebastian, Samuel and Liam.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 11:00am to 1:00 pm where a memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm.
