Obituary for Kenneth John Walter Jr.

Kenneth J. Walter, Jr., 86, of Bridgeport, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, in the United Hospital Center. He was born on December 26, 1931 in Bradford, PA a son of the late Kenneth J. Walter, Sr. and Grace Olive Laney.
He is survived by his wife, Carole (Boyers) Walter, whom he married on April 22, 1983
Also surviving are four children, Marty J. Walter and his wife Sharon of Crosby, TX, Mitchell J. Walter and his wife Margaret of Morgantown, Melanie Smith and her husband David of Parkersburg and Michelle Shock and her husband Richard of Woodbridge, VA; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother Howard Walter.
Kenneth proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Germany working as a mechanic. He worked in the oil and gas industry his entire life. He was an oil field engineer and also worked in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Oklahoma. He retired in 1985. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and stock car racing. He also had a love for music and played the banjo, guitar and other stringed instruments. Kenneth was also a charter member of Bridgeport Free Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday from 2-6 pm where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018, with Reverend Jeff Stalnaker presiding. Interment will follow in WV National Cemetery with Reverend Chris Duckworth presiding.
