Dr. Kyle McCammon of Bridgeport passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018 in Glenn, Michigan.
He was born on October 4, 1959, in Iola, Kansas, the son of Duane and Betty McCammon.

He graduated from Iola High School in 1977. While in high school, Kyle was an honor student and a valuable part of the athletic teams. He was part of the SEK conference championship basketball team of 1976 and the state champion track team of the same year. He also played football, and was a member of the high school band. He played American Legion baseball and coached little league baseball during the summer. While attending Allen County Community College, he was a member of their baseball team. He graduated with honors from both the University of Kansas and the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City. After completing his residency in family practice in Amarillo, Texas, he began emergency room work in West Virginia. He so enjoyed the ER, that he completed another residency at West Virginia University School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia. After completion of this residency, he became an ER physician at United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, West Virginia.

Kyle dearly loved his children, grandchildren and KU basketball. For several years, he gathered family and friends together for a basketball game at Allen Fieldhouse. It was a fun time for all with lots of laughter and reminiscing. Kyle was also an avid runner and cyclist. He competed in many races as well as Ironman events. One highlight for him was getting to watch part of the Tour-de-France race while in France and climbing the Col du Tourmalet himself.

He is survived by his parents Duane and Betty of Branson, Missouri, his brother Toby and his wife Pamela of Greenbrier Arkansas, his sister Kelly Murphy and her husband Bob of Nashville, Tennessee, and his fiancée Gemina Petruzzelli of Glenn, Michigan. He is survived by children Luke McCammon and wife Jennifer of Arlington, Virginia, daughter Dorothy Green and husband Justin of Aurora, Colorado, son Ryan and wife Joy of Okinawa, Japan, son Cale and his fiancée Sarah Ball of Easton, Maryland, daughter Kate of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and six grandchildren, Haley and Max McCammon, Ripley and Elric Green, and Harper and Carter McCammon. Kyle also leaves behind many friends and colleagues who will remember him dearly. Kyle was preceded in death by his grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Celebrate Recovery at Clarksburg Baptist Church, 501 W. Pike Street, Clarksburg, WV 26301, attention Lou Ortenzio, or left with the Burnside Funeral Home at the time of the service. A check should be made out to Clarksburg Baptist Church with Celebrate Recovery in the memo line. Memorials may also be given to Iola High School track and cross country, 305 North Washington, Iola, Kansas 66749.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 12 Noon – 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018, where a celebration of Kyle’s life will be held at 1 p.m. with Reverend Phil Wayman presiding.
