Obituary for Gilmer Lee "Gil" Parrish

Gilmer Lee “Gil” Parrish, 79, of Bridgeport passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at his home. He was born on August 6, 1938 in Rachel, WV a son of the late Willis Lyle Parrish and Eula Ankrom Parrish Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Parrish who he married on July 5, 1969.
He is also survived by his children, David Anthoney Parrish and his wife Tracey of Midlothian,VA, Sherry Lee Parrish Lewis and her husband Ronald “Ronnie” of Clarksburg and Jerry Lee Parrish of Bridgeport; his brothers and sisters, William “Bill” Jones and his wife Janet of Gnadenhutten, OH, Mary Petry of New Philadelphia, OH, Cheryl Larrison and her husband Jim of Kimbolton, OH, and David Parrish and his wife Cindy of Morgantown; his grandchildren, Alexis Ann Parrish and her companion Brendan Madigan, Burlington, NC, Brittany Parrish and her companion Tyler Floyd of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Preston Lynn Lewis and Logan Lee Lewis, Clarksburg and Cody Lee Parrish and Leelyn Gage Parrish of Bridgeport; Step Grandchildren, Cari and husband Drew Curtis and their children Mason and Jackson, Clarksville TN, Kelsey and Kayden Mueller, Midlothian, VA and Schaefer Mueller, who is currently stationed in Afghanistan; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his stepmother Betty J Parrish; his brother Thomas Lyle Parrish Sr.; his step brother Kelly Parrish; and one infant brother; and also his Mother in law and father in law Anthony and Sarah Cody.
Gil served in Army Reserve in 1957 and went into US Air Force in 1958 to 1975 and served overseas during Vietnam War. He then went into 119th Engineering National Guard in 1975 until his retirement in 1983. In addition he was the cabinet maker for the Harrison County Board of Education for 26 years. He was also a member of Downs United Methodist Church, Rachel, WV.
Gil loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved hunting and fishing when he was younger. He liked watching sports on TV, especially the WVU Mountaineers and the Bridgeport Indians. He also liked working jig saw puzzles. He loved traveling to Ohio and spending time with his brother, sister in law, and sisters. He also liked bowling with the Senior Jewels at Compton Bowling Lanes. He loved his little dog “Angel”
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 11:00 am with Reverend Sam Cale presiding. Interment will be in West Virginia National Cemetery with Military Honors.
