Obituary for David Bowers

David Bowers, 63, of Coplin Run Road, Bridgeport, passed away at his residence on Friday evening, August 25, 2017. He was born in Clarksburg on February 5, 1954, a son of Hurley Brooks Bowers, who survives in Clarksburg, and the late Rose Catherine (Rode) Bowers.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Donna Bowers; two children, Brooks Friend Bowers (Mandy), Indianapolis, IN; and Jane Ann Bowers-McCutcheon (William); his step son, Wayne Edward Saville, II (Rosalie Failla), Crystal Lake, IL; two grandchildren, Emma Marie Saville and Daniel Wayne Saville, both of Crystal Lake, IL; two sisters, Jane Lynn Bowers Walsh (John), of Bridgeport, and their daughter Makenzie Elizabeth Walsh, also of Bridgeport; and Rose Marie Bowers (Alan Napier), of Clarksburg; and Angel, his beloved dog and other beloved pets.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hurley Brooks Bowers, Jr.
David was a graduate of Victory High School, Class of 1972. He worked as a truck driver with Yellow Freight System for over 26 years, retiring in April 2007. He was America’s Road Team Captain and a member of Yellow Freight Road Team, was a past president of WV Trucking Association, and a recipient of Yellow Freight’s Chairman’s Award. He had also worked at Sam’s Club as a meat cutter and Maxum Petroleum as a trainer and safety auditor.
He enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He had competed and won several medals at the Italian Heritage Pasta Cook-off for his canned peppers, and in the past few years he won several first, second, and third place medals. At this year’s 2017 Pasta Cook-off, his peppers won First Place for Hot Peppers in Sauce; and Second Place in Medium Peppers in Sauce; Peppers in Oil; and Sweet Peppers in Sauce, and Third Place for Sweet Peppers in Sauce.

In lieu of flowers and since David loved his pets, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Harrison County Humane Society, P.O. Box 4397, Clarksburg, WV 26302.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 1 – 7 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017, where services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday evening with Pastor Rick Owens presiding. Following the service, David will be cremated.
