Obituary for Nancy Jane Elder

Nancy Jane Elder, 78, of Bridgeport, peacefully passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at United Hospital Center with her family at her side.
She was born February 21, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Mary Jane and Eugene Brooks Haines.
Nancy is survived by her only son, Dr. Mark B. Vecchio and his wife Dawna of Bridgeport in addition to her two daughters, Mary Lou Fusco and her husband Michael of Clarksburg and Brooke Anne Harris and her husband John of Wyomissing, PA. She is also survived by her only sibling, Lou Anne Cone and husband John “Chip” Cone of Bridgeport and her nephew Adam John Cone of Louisville, KY. In addition, Nancy is survived by her grandchildren Adrea Leach and her husband Adam Leach of Bridgeport, Dr. Briana Vecchio-Pagan and husband Dr. Vincent Pagan of Ellicott City, MD, Dominique Fusco and her fiancé Terry Davis of Fairmont, Dr. JoeMichael Fusco and his companion Cyrus Hajiran of Morgantown, Vincent Fusco and his companion Elizabeth Stearns of Morgantown, and Emma, Benjamin, Ian, Gabriel, and Claire Harris, all of Wyomissing, PA. She also had five great-grandchildren including Ansley, Avery, Austin, and Archer Leach and Felix Pagan. Also, dear to her heart was her primary caregiver, Debbie Spadafore. Additional caregivers included Nancy Laulis, Daisy Wolfe, and Ruth Lanham.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph M. Vecchio and her second husband, Thomas G. Elder.
Nancy worked alongside her first husband for over twenty years at Horner-Vecchio Real Estate Company and for several years with her son, Mark, at his dental practice. She was an avid animal lover volunteering many years in the past at the Harrison County Humane Society in addition to having volunteered at Shepherd’s Corner. Nancy will be sadly missed by her pets Barkley, Phoebe, and Rachael.

The family would like to especially thank the physicians and staff at United Hospital Center for their care and support of Nancy during her many trying health issues.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 3-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017, with family friend, Father Hilarion V. Cann, presiding. A final viewing from 9 – 10 a.m. will be held prior to the service. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
