Obituary for Sophia Lorene Lowther (Bailey)

Sophia Lorene Bailey Lowther, 52, of Clarksburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, in Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab Center in Morgantown. She was born in Clarksburg on July 27, 1964, a daughter of the late Samuel Brown Bailey and Janet Kay Tenney Bailey.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Michael Lowther, whom she married on October 28, 1989.
She is also survived by her son, John Sammuel Lowther, at Davis and Elkins College; three sisters, Sonia Bailey-Gibson and her husband William “Bill”, of Morgantown; Shellia D. Bailey and Sherrlia Dawn Bailey, both of Nashville, TN; nieces and nephews, Bailey Gibson, Brock Gibson; Katherine Wolford and her husband Jeff; Robbie Waugh; and Adrian Newlon-Lowther; sisters-in-law, Karen Waugh and her husband Eugene; and Joy Lowther; and a brother-in-law, George Lowther.
Sophia was a graduate of Bridgeport High School, Class of 1982, and Fairmont State University with a degree in Education and Art. She also graduated from Pittsburgh Art Institute and Hixons School of Floral Design as a Master Floral Designer. She was a floral designer for over 20 years at Oliverio’s Florist and Hauge’s. Following that, she served as the Activities Director at the VA Nursing Home and at Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab. She enjoyed art, painting, drawing, loved to bake and go fishing.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab for their exceptional care of Sophia.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Thomas P. Horne presiding. Interment will be in Bridgeport Cemetery
