Obituary for Jackie Lee Coomer Sr.

Jackie Lee Coomer, Sr., 82, of Bridgeport, passed away Saturday evening, November 26, 2016, at his residence. He was born December 3, 1933, in Dayton, OH, a son of the late John Brack and Zanna (Woods) Coomer.
On December 10, 1992, he married Carol Sue Gaston, who preceded him in death on August 29, 2015.
He is survived by three children, Rosezanna Coomer, Harrisburg, PA; Jackie L. Coomer, II, Hagerstown, MD; and Jay L. Coomer, Arizona; 8 grandchildren; his brother, Howard Douglas Coomer, Missouri, a sister, Edna Mae Harden, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son at birth, Walter Lee Coomer; a brother, Huey Coomer, and a half-brother, Ernest Basham, and a sister in infancy.
Jackie served in the US Army from 1952 – 1967. From December 1961 through February 1967, he was assigned to the White House as a transportation specialist, where he took every 5th trip with the President of the United States. He was on the fateful trip to Dallas, TX, when President Kennedy was assassinated and when Lyndon Johnson was sworn in.
He had also worked as a tour bus driver for Coach USA. He enjoyed creating stained glass and co-owned Castle Stained Glass Company with his wife Carol, and they enjoyed traveling to shows to sell their pieces.

A graveside service with Military Funeral Honors conducted by the Harrison County Honor Guard and WV Army National Guard Honor Guard, Camp Dawson, will be held at WV National Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016.
