Obituary for Denzil H Ferree

Denzil H. “Squirt” Ferree, 91, of East View, and former resident of Pineville for 56 years, passed away Wednesday morning, June 26, 2013, in the United Hospital Center. He was born August 28, 1921, in Clarksburg, a son of the late John H. and Ella F. (Chipps) Ferree.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Harriett J. (Jones) Ferree.
Also surviving are two sons, Mark Ferree, East View; and Allen Ferree and his fiance’ Denise Palmer, Lake Floyd; two grandsons, Seth Ferree, Morgantown and Matthew Ferree, Nutter Fort; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy “John” Ferree, Robert Ferree, and Page Ferree; and two sisters, Genevieve McCormick and Gertrude “Boots” Mulligan.
He had served in the US Navy in the Pacific and Atlantic Theatres during WWII. He worked at CNG Transmission as a welder for over 38 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at the family farm in Wirt County. A workaholic who gave back to his community, he helped build schools, several churches and a fire truck. He received the Minuteman of the Year award for his contributions and volunteer services to the schools of Wyoming County.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m., where services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor George Mesto and Pastor David John Masto presiding.
