Obituary for Claude Utter

Claude David Utter, Jr. 76, of Clarksburg, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011 in the Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab Center, following a year long illness. He was born August 6, 1934 in Clarksburg, the son of the late Edith Nicholas Utter Mitchell and John Mitchell. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of fifty one years, Jimmie Lou Deem Utter. Together, they had two sons, David K. Utter of Clarksburg, and Daniel J. Utter and his wife Lizabeth of Anmoore. Two grandsons, Todd Matthew Gillespie and his wife Heather, and Zachary Scott Utter. Twin great grandchildren, Haley Marie and Connor Matthew Gillespie, all of Anmoore and all of whom he was very proud. Also surviving are three sisters, Virginia Winans and her husband Dick of Nutter Fort, Glenda Gains and her husband Don of Sardis, and Patty Cheuvront of Clarksburg, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Utter attended Bristol High School. He retired from Allegheny Freight Lines with over 30 years of service. His hobbies included watching sports, he was an avid WVU Mountaineers and NASCAR fan, following Jeff Gordon. But, he was at his ultimate pride and joy when watching his grandson play sports and reading about it in the newspaper the following morning. He enjoyed working outdoors and spending the weekends going to local country music shows with his wife. He was a kind, sensitive, proud man with a wonderful sense of humor, he will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
